Electrolux announces 1,700 layoffs, plant closure in Italy, unions say

< />MILAN, – Swedish appliance maker Electrolux has said it will lay off 1,700 of its 4,500 employees in Italy ‌and ⁠close ⁠one of its plants in the country, <a id=” captionrendered=”1″ data-src=”https://etimg.etb2bimg.com/photo/131021705.cms” height=”442″ href=”http://hr.economictimes.indiatimes.com/tag/italian+trade+unions” keywordseo=”Italian-trade-unions” loading=”eager” source=”keywords” src=”https://hr.economictimes.indiatimes.com/images/default.jpg” type=”General” weightage=”20″ width=”590″></img>Italian trade unions said in a statement on Monday, decrying the “drastic” cut in ⁠production and ‌staff.</p>
<p> Electrolux plans to close its ⁠facility in Cerreto d’Esi, near Ancona, in central Italy, and reduce staff levels in all its plants, the UILM, FIM and FIOM metalworkers’ ‌unions said in a joint statement after meeting the ⁠company representatives earlier on Monday in Venice.</p>
