Zee Entertainment earmarks 15% of football subscription revenues for talent development

The announcement comes days after Zee5 launched FIFA-related subscription packs priced at Rs 799 for three months and Rs 1,699 for 12 months. ZEE acquired FIFA media rights for India till 2034, pipping JioStar and Sony Pictures Networks India.

The company said the funds will be used to support talent identification, structured training initiatives and scalable league formats across city, district, state and national levels. ZEE also plans to collaborate with global football federations and national and state-level associations as part of the programme.

The initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to build a football ecosystem in India and create opportunities for young players across the country. Leveraging its partnership with FIFA through 2034, the company said it aims to develop a robust talent pipeline through grassroots programmes and league structures.

“India has a large, untapped reserve of football talent that harbours immense potential to compete at a global stage. As a responsible industry stakeholder and the home of football in India, it is our commitment to build a sustainable and conducive environment that nurtures the development of football in a holistic manner. Through this initiative, we are enabling our football viewers to invest in the dreams of countless young Indians who aspire to play the beautiful game at a global stage,” said Punit Goenka, Chief Executive Officer, ZEE.

The broadcaster said it aims to build a future talent pipeline through structured training and league development programmes, with the objective of helping India participate in men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups across age groups by 2034.

“The journey towards India’s Olympic dream requires collective efforts from the Government, sports bodies, corporates and communities. Initiatives like these will provide our young athletes with greater opportunities, better platforms and the confidence to compete at the highest global stage,” said Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse.
