VIETTEL ARRIVES IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC WITH TWO DECADES OF EXPERIENCE IN INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS

/PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Viettel Group, one of the largest technology and telecommunications groups in Vietnam, arrives in the Dominican Republic after more than twenty years investing in international markets, with active operations in ten countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Dominican Republic, Viettel’s eleventh international market

Following the recent award of spectrum by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), Viettel is preparing to establish a long-term presence in the country, with plans to invest in infrastructure and contribute to Dominican digital development.

According to Resolution No. 073-2026, issued on August 19 by INDOTEL, Viettel Global—the group’s international investment arm—obtained the right to use 240 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.6 GHz bands for 20 years, sufficient basis to deploy modern 4G and 5G networks.

Under the terms of the tender, the concession contract must be signed within the next 90 days. Viettel Global is also advancing in the constitution of its local entity. Once operations begin, the Dominican Republic will become the company’s eleventh international market.

“We follow a long-term investment approach focused on developing modern infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies and generating sustainable value for people, businesses and local economies,” said Tao Duc Thang, president and CEO of Viettel Group.

It currently directly operates telecommunications networks in 10 markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Seven of these operators lead their market by number of mobile subscribers. In 2025, Viettel’s international operations generated US$3.34 billion in revenue, up 23.9% from the previous year, and marked the ninth consecutive year of double-digit growth.

Viettel’s international capabilities were recently recognized at the International Business Awards 2026, where Viettel earned 30 awards—21 of them for its operations outside Vietnam—the most among 3,800 participating organizations.

The Dominican Republic, one of the most dynamic economies in the Caribbean, registers a growing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services. Viettel sees the country as an important part of its next stage of international growth and plans to deploy wide-ranging infrastructure – including remote and underserved areas – to expand access to connectivity and digital services for both consumers and businesses.
