/PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — CJ Bhalla has been named chief financial officer of Blue Shield of California and its parent company, Ascendiun, to provide decisive operations and strategic fiscal direction in the complex managed care environment.
Bhalla will begin her role as chief financial officer (CFO) on May 18, when she succeeds interim CFO Kassie Maroney, who remains an integral executive leader of the company in her role as chief actuary.
CJ Bhalla, a healthcare finance expert, is named CFO of Blue Shield of California and Ascendiun, the nonprofit health plan’s parent company.
“CJ is a proven leader with extensive experience guiding complex, mission-driven healthcare organizations,” said Mike Stuart, president and CEO of Blue Shield of California. “His expertise in strategic finance, operational discipline and data-driven leadership will be critical as we accelerate our goal of making health care more affordable for our members, improving health outcomes and becoming the health plan members love.”

Bhalla has spent the past 20 years in various financial leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente, most recently serving as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Integrated Care and Coverage.
As part of that role, he oversaw finances for Kaiser Permanente’s California, Hawaii, Northwest and Washington markets, which serve more than 10 million members and generate $100 billion in combined annual revenue.

Bhalla earned his master’s degree in Business Administration from Virginia Polytechnic University and his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Punjab College of Engineering, India. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
