Singapore’s Career Health SG to support lifelong learning and workforce readiness

Singapore has launched a new national initiative, Career Health SG, to help workers make informed career decisions and stay relevant in a rapidly- changing job market.

Introduced on 10 July, the initiative aims to equip individuals with the right mix of skills training and on-the-job learning to navigate career shifts more confidently.

A central feature of the initiative is a new one-stop online platform, also named Career Health SG. The website provides both workers and employers with a clear overview of available support schemes, training programmes, and workforce planning tools. The goal is to encourage proactive career development and long-term workforce sustainability.

The initiative was launched at the first-ever Career Health Summit 2025, held at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre. The two-day event brought together over 500 business leaders and HR professionals to discuss strategies for building resilient, future-ready workforces.

As part of the initiative, employers are encouraged to adopt a ‘skills-first’ approach in hiring and workforce development—prioritising practical capabilities over formal qualifications. This shift is expected to open up broader talent pools and enhance business competitiveness.

Research by the Ministry of Manpower has shown that companies using skills-first strategies experience faster hiring, more diverse recruitment, and improved employee outcomes. To support implementation, employers are advised to start by assessing skill gaps or identifying roles at risk. They can then create structured plans to upgrade worker capabilities and design clear progression pathways. Additional resources to help businesses measure workforce readiness and explore job redesign will be rolled out later in 2025.

Workers, meanwhile, can benefit from career coaching under Workforce Singapore’s Polaris programme, which will guide them through training options and help align their skills with future job opportunities.
