Labour Commissioner summons TCS over complaints

Pune’s Labour Commissioner has summoned Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) following a complaint filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) alleging unfair layoffs and forced resignations. According to the complaint by NITES, almost 2,500 employees belonging to the middle to senior levels were forced to put in their papers, which is a violation of labour laws.

The hearing before the Government Labour Officer is scheduled for 18 November 2025, as per media reports.

As of September, TCS has reportedly trimmed its workforce by about 20,000 employees and paid about Rs 1,135 crore in severance packages to those impacted.

The Senate reportedly helped many existing and laid-off staff members of TCS submit complaints based on the documents and details collected from impacted employees who revealed instances of forced resignations. terminations without any warning and withholding of dues.

Employees who feel they have been unfairly laid off or forced to resign are being urged by NITES to speak up and lodge a formal complaint.

In October it was reported that attractive severance pay of two years had been offered to those who had spent over 15 years with the company, while those who had served the company for 10 to 15 years were offered a year and a half’s pay as severance.

Additionally, TCS had offered to cover the impacted employees’ (including junior associates) outplacement agency fees for up to three months. Employees will also continue to receive mental-health support under TCS Cares, which will allow them access to therapists for counselling in the short as well as medium term.
