A professional from a non-technical background shared their remarkable 10-year journey—from earning ₹22,000 a month to ₹2.2 lakh per month—leaving netizens inspired.

The user revealed that their career began a decade ago in a non-tech role with a modest salary. For the first six years, growth was slow, with their earnings rising from ₹22,000 to ₹40,000 per month. “Honestly, I was pretty clueless during that phase—didn’t have a clear direction, wasn’t pushing myself much, and somewhere the hunger to grow was missing,” the post read.

Things began to change when they decided to focus on upskilling and making deliberate career choices. “Then reality started hitting. I began to look at my career differently—focusing on skills, value, and intentional decisions. In the last three years, things changed massively. I went from ₹40K to ₹2.2L per month. It wasn’t luck—it was about clarity, effort, and consistency,” they wrote.

The post emphasized that progress is possible even when one feels stuck. The user credited Reddit’s compensation discussions for helping them understand market standards and build confidence to aim higher.

Coming from a middle-class background, they said the hunger to grow remains strong. “I don’t feel like I’ve achieved much yet, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”

The professional started their career in an administrative HR transaction role and now works in HR tech. Interestingly, the person revealed that he used ChatGPT to refine their post for better readability, underscoring the importance of tech in boosting one’s career.

Commenting on the post, another non-techie claimed that increasing his salary by 10x took him about 13 years.

A third person revealed he started his career with Rs 5,000 per month stipend but left the job to pursue MBA that gave his career huge boost and he is now earning Rs 26 lakh per annum.
