Starbucks has mandated its corporate employees to work from the physical office for at least four days in a week starting October 2025, for that is when the new financial year reportedly begins for the coffee chain. For those employees who do not wish to comply, the company is offering the option to exit voluntarily with a lumpsum payment. Brian Niccol, CEO, Starbucks, has reportedly communicated to the employees that the coffee chain is all about establishing human connections, which can only happen if employees are present physically to collaborate, build and strengthen the work culture of the firm.
Therefore, Monday to Thursday, employees at the Seattle and Toronto support centres as well as the regional offices in North America are expected to work from the physical office. Starbucks is also encouraging employees to relocate in order to follow the mandate.Efforts are reportedly on to ensure that each employee is assigned a desk to work at.
The coffee chain has been endeavouring to improve sales and revenues. As part of this effort, the Starbucks menu is being simplified so that the service time can be reduced and the whole experience of a coffee shop can be enhanced for the customers. The aim is to bring down the service time to just four minutes per drink.
Under Niccol, Starbucks had announced a layoff of 1,100 corporate employees worldwide in February 2025 as part of an attempt to restructure and streamline operations to improve efficiency across the company.
