Wipro’s HR Saurabh Govil shared that Wipro will not be recruiting new employees with significantly inflated salary packages. However, he stated that individuals who enhance their skills will be eligible for premium pay.
During an interview with the Times of India, Govil shared that Wipro has altered its approach to hiring new employees, no longer offering a flat 30 per cent salary hike as was the case in 2021 when there were numerous opportunities and high attrition rates. However, the company has now shifted its focus, and individuals possessing specialised skills such as generative AI and cybersecurity will be eligible for premium pay. Also Read:Veeba’s V-Nourish to create 500 jobs
“In 2021, people had a lot of opportunities, our attrition was high and people were being hired at 30 per cent premiums. That will not happen now. But now, niche skills like generative AI and cybersecurity will get a premium,” the HR said.
He emphasised Wipro’s objective of automating a significant portion of HR functions. The company aims to resolve 80 per cent of queries through bots, enabling HR professionals to serve as coaches for managers and concentrate on enhancing team building and management strategies.
According to Govil’s statements to the mentioned source, Wipro has set the expectation for employees to work from the office. Existing employees who have been working remotely are requested to return to the office three days a week.
However, there are reports suggesting that certain individuals may be required to work five days a week. It is worth noting that Wipro has not enforced a mandatory work-from-office policy at this time, unlike other prominent tech giants such as Apple, TCS, and Amazon.
Despite receiving repeated reminders to return to the office, employees are displaying reluctance, as Govil acknowledges. Many employees hold the belief that their work can be effectively conducted from home without compromising productivity.
Recently, it was revealed that 92 per cent of freshers were hired by the IT company at a reduced salary of Rs 3.5 lakh per year. This is a significant decrease compared to the initial offer of Rs 6.5 lakh per year, as reported previously.
