Twitter has appointed Samiran Gupta to lead the public policies department across India and South Asia. The announcement was made on February 24 through a tweet made by Kathleen Reen, Senior Director Public Policy and Philanthropy, APAC, Twitter.
The tweet read, “Pleased to welcome @Samiran01 to @Twitter to lead our public @Policy & philanthropy efforts in India & S Asia. A deeply respected leader in public affairs & tech policy, we’re excited Samiran joins our journey toward an inclusive & open Internet that empowers public conversation.
According to a report carried out by Moneycontrol, prior to this appointment, Gupta was associated with The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non-profit organisation. He served there for seven years. He was also briefly the firm’s head of stakeholder engagement for the South Asia market.
The news of the appointment comes almost a year after the former Public Policy Director for India and South Asia Mahima Kaul resigned.
